Sixty-nine oral history interviews conducted in 1995-1996 and pertaining to Soviet collapse and the formation of independent Ukraine from 1988-1991. Interviews were conducted with Mikhail Gorbachev and Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk, and with numerous politicians, dissidents, religious figures, diplomats, journalists, businesspeople, scientists, and military and intelligence officers. Interviews focus on national movements and civil associations that appeared in Ukraine during perestroika and on the formation of the independent Ukrainian state. Each interview includes both video and a written transcript, sometimes in English.
